SIRABA: THE BIG ROAD /
SIRABA: LA GRANDE VOIE
US PREMIERE
Independence in Africa brought to the forefront a whole set of problems colonial powers never dealt with. The film centers on the plan of building a road, which is fundamental for the development plans of the region. However, the road must go through a sacred forest and the local community resists vehemently to this project. "Siraba: The Great Road" is a moving film that explores the latent issues of tradition and modernity, touching on themes such as religious tradition, superstition, witchcraft, intergenerational relations and state-society relations. By Issa Traoré de Brahima, 90min, 2003, Burkina Faso/France, drama in Bambara with English subtitles.
